Study on relapse and associated factors among the Drug Users in Bangladesh reveald
DAM revealed Study report on relapse and associated factors among the Drug Users in Bangladesh on 6 May 2019 at DAM auditorium,Dhanmondi. The event was chaired by the President of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Alam. Moreover Senior Lecturer of Public Health Department of North South University Dr. Hayat un Nabi and Associate Prof. of National Mental Health Institute & Hospital Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed were present in the program. Director, Health Sector of DAM Mr. Iqbal Masud revealed this information while presenting a study report over patients who relapsed after taking treatment for substance use disorder. He also informed 62.7% addicted started using substance before the age of 18, 70 % used their parents’ money to buy drugs; 89.4 % were cigarette smokers; 70.6% started using drugs from their curiosity. He also said 82% relapsed patients swallowed, 26.2% inhaled. 98.9% patients received residential treatment for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) previously, while 65.8% received detoxification and rehabilitation services for 31-90 days. 42.4% received counseling services, and 42% were under follow up after completing the treatment. He mentioned that, family unrest and peer pressure were the main causes of relapsing.
