“Journalists can work as watch dog for proper implementation of TC Law”- said Information Secretary

Gave Speech By Chief Guest of the seminar Mr. Martuza Ahmed, Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Information (MOI) On 14 June Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) and Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) has jointly organized a seminar on ‘implementation of tobacco control law in Bangladesh’ at PIB Conference Room. The Chief Guest of the seminar Mr. Martuza Ahmed, Honorable Secretary, Ministry of Information (MOI) gave importance on journalists roles for proper implementation of TC Law in the seminar. He said that journalists can play their role as watch dog to monitor and publish the various features/news on implementation of TC Law. He also gave some instructions to the other departments of MOI and journalists for proper implementation tobacco control Law. The seminar was chaired by Mr. Shah Alamgir, Director General of PIB. He said PIB is working for journalists through organizing various training. Now PIB is developing a curriculum on tobacco control issue and it will finalize and publish very soon. Brig. Gen. (Dr) Saidur Rahman, Chief Health Officer, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Kazi Rafiqul Alam, President, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, Md. Jahangir Hossain, Director-Training, PIB and Md. Ruhul Kuddus, Coordinator, National Tobacco Control Cell (NTCC) were present and gave valuable speech as special guests in the seminar. At the beginning of the seminar, Md. Mukhlesur Rahman, Assistant Director and Project Coordinator. Tobacco control program of DAM has presented the implementation status of Tobacco control law in Bangladesh through power point presentation. Above 55 senior journalists from various print and electronic media were present. Besides, govt. officials, CTFK representatives, DAM Tobacco Control Program team members and other anti tobacco NGOs representatives were attended the seminar. The seminar was moderated by Mr. Ruhul Amin Rushed, Chief News Editor, Bangla Vision.
