Get Together of Recovering drug Addicts Held

Recover is a journey toward a better life’ with this slogan Addiction Management & Integrated Care (AMIC) Center of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) organized the 5th get-together program of recovering drug users at Gazipur AMIC Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation center on 15 February 2014. AMIC-DAM Assistant Director Iqbal Masud presided over programme while Assistant Professor of National Institute of Mental Health Dr. Avra Das Bhowmik, Assistant Professor Dr. Mekhola Sharker, Program Manager of fhi360 K M S Tareque, Senior News Editor of Bangla Vision TV Mr. Ruhul Amin Rushd, Deputy Director of Dhaka Ahsania Mission A K M Abdur Razzak, Convener of Family Support Group Nasrin Yeakub, Clinic Manager of DAM’s Urban Primary Health Care Project Dr. Naila Parven, Project Manager Mahfida Dina Rubaya and Program Officer of DAM Zahid Iqbal spoke on the occasion. Center Manager of AMIC Center Mir Shaiful Alam Kazal delivered the welcome speech. Speakers said: “It is possible to bring back drug-addicts into healthy and normal life through treatment and rehabilitation”. High percentage of success can be achieved through long term treatment and rehabilitation and family cooperation is a must for recovery of drug dependency. Improvement of relationship among other members of family, fellow feelings, empathy of family members and above all the significant role of family is indispensable for preventing relapse of recovering, they said. Sharing, distributed ten recovery mementos, recovery countdown, games, raffle draw and cultural function were arranged for over 300 participants who were free from drug and members of their families. AMIC-DAM has been running three drug treatment rehabilitation centers at Gazipur, Jessore and Dhaka. Since 1990, DAM has been implementing drug prevention program in Bangladesh. Moreover, AMIC is going to start a drug treatment and rehabilitation centre for the female in April 2014.
