We know that old age is a natural thing which happens in all our lives. According to National Old Person Guideline 2013 it has been mentioned that people of age 60 and above are considered old person. Now, Honorable President in 27 November of 2018 declared the older person as senior citizens of the country. Currently, 7% of the total population includes older people and their number is increasing day by day. For several reasons it is not possible for some older persons to stay with their family.
To provide a healthy and secure old home facilities Dhaka Ahsania Mission has opened an old home (Hena Ahmed Shantinibash) at Alampur village of Srinagar Upazila in Munshiganj. The old home has been built in a beautiful and clean area. The Hena Ahmed Shantinibash is run by experienced and cordial staff in a healthy, clean and pollution free environment. The facilities include quality food service, regular health checkups, entertainment facilities and also opportunities of participating in social activities and getting social acceptance.
During the pandemic, the physical and mental risk of old people have increased. The World Health Organisation and the Directorate of Health of Bangladesh have both requested to deal cordially and take care of the old people in such a crucial time. To ensure the rights and safety of the senior citizens, International Day for Older Persons is celebrated internationally. This year, 1st of October, 2020 has been decided to be celebrated as International Day for Older Persons by maintaining social distancing and celebrated in the premises of individual organizations. This year, the slogan of the Older Persons Day is “Pandemics: Do they change? How We Address Age and Ageing?”.
On 1 October, 2020 Dhaka Ahsania Mission Hena Ahmed Shantinibash has celebrated the International Day for Older Persons at Alampur village of Srinagar Upazila in Munshiganj in a homely manner. The residents of Hena Ahmed Shantinibash were seen to be very happy and were also seen laughing. The children and relatives of the Older Persons and staff of the Health Sector of Dhaka Ahsania Mission had participated in the celebration program.
