Anti-Tobacco Road Show organized in Dhaka City
To increase the public awareness on tobacco harms and Tobacco Control Law, Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) organized a day long anti-tobacco road show with well decorated 2 trucks, 2 horse carts and 2 Folk Singer (Baul) groups on 14 February 2018 in Dhaka City. The Baul groups have disseminated the anti-tobacco messages through various anti-tobacco folk songs and the trucks & horse carts were decorated with various anti-tobacco messages. The day long road show was inaugurated by Mr. Khan Mohammad Billal, Chief Executive Officer, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). Brig. Gen. Shekh Salahuddin, Chief Health Officer of DSCC, Md. Shahabuddin Khan, Secretary of DSCC and Mr. Md. Mukhlesur Rahman, Assistant Director & Project Coordinator of DAM Tobacco control program were also delivered their short speeches on the occasion of Road Show inauguration. All Departmental Heads and other officials of DSCC were attended the inauguration event. After the inauguration 01 truck and 01 horse cart moved the DSCC area. It has started from DSCC, Nagar Bhaban and then moved to Paltan, Press Club, High Court, Doel Circle, Ekushe Book Fair area, Central Shahid Minar, TSC, Shahabag, Panthapath and ended in Karwan Bazar. On the other hand, 01 truck and 01 horse cart with Baul group has disseminated the anti-tobacco messages in the areas of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC); like- Moghbazar, Hatirjhil, Gulshan Niketon, Gulshan-1 & 2 (DNCC Nagar Bhaban), Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon areas. It was also ended in Karwan Bazar, in front of DNCC Zone-5 Office. The Zonal Executive Officer & Executive Magistrate Mr. S M Ajior Rahman ended the road show by delivering his closing speech. Mr. Ataur Rahman Masud, Program Officer of Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids (CTFK), Mr. Khalequzzaman, Sanitary Inspector of DNCC Zone-5 and Mr. Mukhlesur Rahman delivered their short speeches in the closing of the Road Show. A good number of anti-tobacco and anti-drug IEC/BCC materials were distributed to the city dwellers through this road show. Besides, memorandum and no smoking signage were handed over to the public place authority; like- National Public Library, Family Planning Department, Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Charulata Restaurant and different shops etc.
